Royal Southern Brotherhood’s Latest and Other
New Music Added to My Music Rotation – Week of June 9th
Yesterday was New Release Tuesday and several albums caught my attention. So I made a little list and then headed over to Spotify to check them out. The albums on the list included:::
Bound By The Blues – Sonny Landreth –
Moksha – My Sleeping Karma
Angeleno – Sam Outlaw
Albums from both Royal Southern Brotherhood and Sonny Landreth can be found in my music library. The other two artists are new to me. Yesterday I had a chance to listen to most of the first two albums and a little of Angeleno. Moksha is playing as I am writing this post!
I had a chance, yesterday, to also listen to Breathless the latest release from trumpeter Terence Blanchard. Breathess was released on May 26th! Finally, while I was reviewing this week’s JazzWeek Charts checked out the music of Joshua Breakstone whose latest release (May 19, 2015) 2nd Avenue is number 36 on the chart rising from number 87 last week!! What I’ll do, is give these albums a few listens over the next few days and then let you know what I think! I have listened to Don’t Look Back and here’s a little about that album…..
Don’t Look Back – Royal Southern Brotherhood
Don’t Look Back (The Muscle Shoals Sessions) is the third release from the Royal Southern Brotherhood and there have been some changes in the band. The Royal Southern Brotherhood got their name because two of the members of the band, Devon Allman and Cyril Neville were related to southern music royalty! While the music roots of the other members of the band guitarist Mike Zito, bassist Charlie Wooton, and drummer Yonrico Scott;s roots are firmly planted in the south. Both Zito and Allman have left the band.
Keeping in the spirit of the band the two new members Bart Walker and Tyrone Vaughan both hail from the south. Walker calls Nashville home and Vaughan hails from Texas, and yes Vaughan is related to some royalty his father is Jimmie and that makes Stevie Ray his uncle! Bart Walker on the other hand is royalty in an of himself Bart burst on the blues scene when he won the International Blues Challenge‘s prestigious award for guitar in 2012!!
So with all those changes the members of Royal Southen Brotherhood are Bart Walker, Charlie Wooton, Cyril Neville, Tyrone Vaughan & Yonrico Scott (L-R in the following picture…)
While the music on Don’t Look Back may be a little funkier than the band’s previous two albums it is still terrific. Cyril and Walker’s vocals are great and the guitars of Walker and Vaughan tear it up on several of the tracks..
So Check it Out! Here’s a live performance of the title track Don’t Look Back
