Morning Music – A little “Classical Gas” and “That’s All Right, Mama” from the birthday boys!

So today (August 24, 1938) is the birthday of former writer for the Smothers Brothers Show and great guitarist Mason Williams. He was born in Abilene, Texas in 1938. “Classical Gas” rose as high as #2 on the charts. The Mason Williams Phonograph Record appears in my vinyl collection and got  a lot of spins back in the day!

A “hit” song of another artist whose birthday is also today is Arthur “Big Boy” Cruddup whose song”that’s All Right, Mama” was Elvis’s first single! Now the song is included in my collection but it appears on The Live Adventures of Mike Bloomfield and Al Kooper. Cruddup had many admirers including who have covered his songs including: Eric Clapton, Rod Stewart, and Fleetwood Mac. Arthur died in 1974. So here is some morning music from Mason Williams and Arthur Cruddup! Oh, it’s also the birthday of a couple other musicians whose work appears in my vinyl collection: Quicksilver Messenger Service guitarist John Cipollina (1943) and Joe Chambers of the Chambers Brothers (1942).
