Life’s Soundtrack Part I – New Music from Organissimo Dedicated

organissimoSo this afternoon’s soundtrack was provided by two instrumental albums, first up was the new album from Organissimo Dedicated followed by Kotebel’s 2012 release Concerto For Piano And Electric Ensemble. Both are really fine albums!

I first heard Organissimo about two years ago, when I discovered their album
Groovadelphia on the Roots Music Report Jazz Chart and loved it! This trio produces some great music. At their website they write….

…. organissimo’s sound is instantly identifiable yet constantly evolving, infusing elements of funk, gospel, blues, progressive rock, and Latin rhythms into a solid foundation of jazz. Shifting meters, deep grooves, melodic finesse and tight ensemble interplay are hallmarks of the organissimo sound.

Organissimo 2So when these three band mates get together: Jim Alfredson on Hammond B3, Larry Barris on guitar and Randy Marsh on drums, several genre planets in the Roots Musical Universe collide and the outcome is what they call “jazz with soul” on their Facebook page. I just call it great stuff! Other folks think so too, currently, the album is number 22 on the Jazz Week Chart It has been as high as number 5! Here’s some more press:

“organissimo invigorate[s] the organ trio tradition with fresh takes on the genre… eclectic… classic… inventive… ” ~ Bill Milkowski on

“…stretches the boundaries of the traditional organ trio with bits of funk, blues, Latin, groove, and New Orleans influences.” ~ Jazzweek

” But what I like best about the band are the one-for-all mentality and the attention to details of dynamics, pacing and groove. These guys will put a smile on your face and keep it there.”
~ Detroit Free Press

So let’s go “Into the Night” with a kickstarter update issued during the making of the album Dedicated. I’ll be back in a while to write about Kotebel and their album….. but right now life intrudes….
