Today in History – An Inventor disappears and an Amercian musician is an idiot!

Do you know this man? I for one wouldn’t recognize him. But most people know his invention and on this day in 1913  he vanished  while sailing from Antwerp, Belgium to Harwick, England.

On this day in 1913, Rudolf Diesel, inventor of the engine that bears his name, disappears from the steamship Dresden while traveling from Antwerp, Belgium to Harwick, England. On October 10, a Belgian sailor aboard a North Sea steamer spotted a body floating in the water; upon further investigation, it turned out that the body was Diesel’s. There was, and remains, a great deal of mystery surrounding his death: It was officially judged a suicide, but many people believed (and still believe) that Diesel was murdered. f the engine that bears his name, disappears from the steamship Dresden while traveling from Antwerp, Belgium to Harwick, England. Today is also Jerry Lee Lewis’ birthday, now I don’t have any Jerry Lee Lewis’ music in my collection, but he surely influenced many of the artists that are in the collection. However, the reason that I chose to recognize is that in 1976…

At his 41st birthday party, a drunk Jerry Lee Lewis attempts to shoot a soda bottle with his .357 Magnum and instead hits his bass player, Norman Owens, twice in the chest. Owens makes a full recovery.

Guns don’t hurt people, stupid people with guns hurt people….but then if they didn’t have a gun, would he have tried to hit the bottle with a baseball bat and hit his bassist twice in the chest??

Anyway, here’s some morning “maniac” music from Jerry Lee Lewis “Great Balls of Fire” (If the phrase fits use it!)
